MFA's New Pro-Vegetarian Ad Campaigns Hit Canada and New York City

Mercy For Animals is serving up some serious food for thought with a provocative set of new pro-vegetarian advertisements on the Toronto and New York City subway and bus lines.

Both campaigns consist of over 200 ads, which draw attention to the plight of cows, pigs, and chickens raised and killed for meat. One ad, featuring images of chickens and pigs in crowded factory farm conditions, asks viewers, "How much cruelty can you swallow?" while the other set of ads illustrates the similarities between the animals we call "family" and the animals we call "dinner." The ads run through July and will be viewed by 14.7 million New York City bus riders, and will be seen 470,000 times per day by subway riders in Toronto.

As part of the Toronto campaign launch, MFA has created ChooseVeg.ca, which gives an inside look at Canadian factory farms.

Chenoa Manor: Giving Sanctuary to Abused Farmed Animals

"Chenoa" is a Native American term meaning "white dove," a figure of peace, which perfectly symbolizes the work done at Chenoa Manor animal sanctuary. Chenoa's 25 acres in Chester County, Pennsylvania are home to over 200 animals, including those rescued from factory farms, cruel laboratory experiments, the exotic pet trade or while en route to slaughter.

Chenoa Manor is an all-volunteer-run, nonprofit organization, serving as a safe haven for animals, and also as a youth-assistance facility for at risk teenagers. Dr. Robert Teti, Chenoa Manor's Executive Director, founded the organization in 2003. As a licensed veterinarian, Dr. Teti also provides the animal residents' veterinary care and attends to their daily needs.

Article: Animals Just Want to Have Fun, Survey Finds

Scientific findings published in the latest edition of Applied Animal Behavior Science reveal that, "animals experience happiness for happiness' sake related to play, food, touch and sex," reports Discovery News.

Jonathan Balcombe, a senior research scientist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, stated to Discovery News that, "the capacity for pleasure means that an animal's life has intrinsic value, that is, value to the individual independent of his or her value to anyone else, including humans."
