Another Cow Runs for His Life, Escapes Queens Slaughterhouse

According to NBC New York, a cow has escaped a Queens slaughterhouse and is running for his life through the city’s busy streets.

Details about where the cow came from and how he broke free were unavailable, but police say they have been looking for the animal in the Jamaica section of Queens since at least 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Photos on social media show the cow scared and running between cars and homes. NBC’s news chopper last spotted him between two houses as police tried to wrangle him.

This is the third time in just over a year that a cow has escaped a New York slaughterhouse.

You may remember Freddy, a cow who also made the news when he escaped in Queens. He was eventually caught and brought to an animal sanctuary where he lives peacefully now.

These heartbreaking stories are not uncommon. We’ve shared several accounts of farmed animals who have fled transport trucks and slaughterhouses. All animals suffer and value their lives; no animal volunteers to be killed for meat.

Update:

Sadly, this cow passed away earlier today. It is believed a combination of sedation, injuries sustained from fleeing, and exhaustion led to his death.
