Columbus, Sunrise Sanctuary Benefit Featuring MFA's Founder Nathan RunkleSaturday, April 26, 2014

Fifteen years after founding Mercy For Animals in a rural Ohio farm town, MFA’s executive director, Nathan Runkle, will return to Columbus to deliver a motivating speech at a special benefit for Sunrise Sanctuary.

Featured on 20/20, Nightline, CNN, NPR, and hundreds of other news outlets across the country, Nathan is a thought-provoking and outspoken advocate for farmed animal rights and veganism. During his many years of animal advocacy, Nathan has worked with countless celebrities, elected officials, and international organizations to promote policies and legislative action to help protect farmed animals.

The inspiring lecture will benefit Sunrise Sanctuary, a central Ohio home to over 170 rescued farmed animals who were in need of love and proper care. Founded by Mindy Mallet, Sunrise Sanctuary provides all of its animal residents the freedom to be healthy, to socialize, and to enjoy their lives to the fullest.

The event will be held at Studio 35 with delicious vegan snacks and beverages provided by local Pattycake Bakery. Sign up here. We look forward to a great time and hope to see you there!

Chicago, Chick-Fil-A Chicken Appreciation DayThursday, May 1, 2014

Join Mercy For Animals on Thursday, May 1 to protest Chick-fil-A's cruel practices. Chick-fil-A's jeering ad campaigns depicting cows advising people to "eat mor chikin" perpetuate the horror endured by factory-farmed chickens, perhaps the most abused animals on the planet.

By having our own Chicken Appreciation Day, we can educate the public about the suffering of chickens on factory farms. We can inspire others to spare thousands, if not millions, of animals and ultimately create a more compassionate society. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us distribute literature and hold signs. Look for Brian, who will be wearing a Mercy For Animals messenger bag.

For more information on this event, please email Brian Pietrzycki, Chicago outreach coordinator, or call 773-368-1043.  An RSVP is not required, but it will help us determine how many leaflets we should bring. We will also notify you if we have to cancel the event due to bad weather.

Seattle Protest: Urge Amazon.com’s Shareholders to End the Sale of Foie GrasWednesday, May 21, 2014

Join Mercy For Animals for an eye-catching protest outside of Amazon’s annual shareholders meeting in Seattle.

Following an MFA undercover investigation exposing shocking animal abuse at a major Amazon.com foie gras supplier, we are calling on the world's largest online retailer to take a stand against blatant animal abuse and immediately end the sale of foie gras on its site.

Foie gras, French for “fat liver,” is made from the diseased livers of ducks who have been violently force-fed up to three times a day for several weeks through metal pipes rammed down their throats.

Workers for the Amazon foie gras supplier admit that birds often die from the force-feeding process and others struggle to breathe as their unnaturally enlarged livers press against their lungs.

This is blatant animal abuse that Amazon shouldn’t support. Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, and other top executives will be there, so it’s crucial that we have a big showing to illustrate the widespread opposition to foie gras. Signs, banners, and leaflets will be provided. Media is expected at the event, so please dress professionally. Encourage your friends and family to join you at this peaceful protest.

And, before attending, please be sure to sign MFA's petition urging Amazon executives to ban this cruel product, and then share the petition and undercover video with others. For more details about the campaign, visit AmazonCruelty.com.

For more information, please email Mikael Nielsen, national volunteer coordinator, or call 773-971-3895.

Cincinnati, Leafleting at the Bruno Mars ConcertFriday, June 27, 2014

The average vegetarian spares about 31 farmed animals each year (not to mention many more wild fish and shellfish), adding up to hundreds in a lifetime. Research has shown leafleting to be very effective at inspiring people to go vegetarian or to reduce their consumption of animal products. By educating the public about factory farming and veg eating, you can personally spare thousands of animals from a lifetime of misery.

If this is your first time leafleting, don’t worry! You can leaflet right next to one of the more experienced leafleters, who will guide you through the process and help make it fun and effective. Stay for as long or as short a time as you like. Look for Kevin O’Connor, who will be wearing a Mercy For Animals messenger bag.

For more information on this event, please email Kevin O’Connor, Cincinnati outreach coordinator, or call 513-403-6048. An RSVP is not required, but it will help us determine the correct number of leaflets to bring. We will also notify you if we have to cancel the event due to bad weather.

Where: U.S. Bank Arena, 100 Broadway St., Cincinnati, OH
When: Friday, June 27, 2014 at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Boston, Leafleting at Boston Green FestFriday, August 15, 2014

Look for Ellen Kennelly, who will be wearing a Mercy For Animals messenger bag.

For more information on this event, please email Ellen Kennelly, Boston leafleting coordinator, or call 617-417-3487. An RSVP is not required, but it will help us determine the correct number of leaflets to bring. We will also notify you if we have to cancel the event due to bad weather.

Atlanta, Pride ParadeSunday, October 12, 2014

March with Mercy For Animals as we promote equality for all at the Atlanta Pride Parade. Sure to be one of our most fun-filled, raucous, and joyful events of the year, we will march in the parade with an MFA logo banner that declares, "No one is free when others are oppressed," rainbow flags, bells, and whistles, and have our best leafleters along the sides. Along the parade route we will distribute literature about factory farming and veg eating, reaching many hundreds to thousands of people with our message of compassion. Join us for the fun and show your support for animal protection and equality.

Wear your MFA T-shirt or we'll provide one for you at the event for a recommended $5 donation.

An RSVP is required to march in the parade with MFA. Please RSVP by sending an email to Sarah Spiers, Atlanta outreach coordinator, or call 678-427-7124.
