New York Events| Manhattan, Compassionate Choices Lunch Hour Outreach | Friday, July 30, 2010 |
One of the most effective techniques for raising awareness about the health and ethical benefits of a plant-based diet is distributing literature in public places with heavy foot-traffic. At the right time and place, just one person can hand out hundreds of brochures in less than an hour.
Let's be really conservative and assume that only 1% of the people who receive a brochure will decide to go vegan after reading it. If you pass out 200 leaflets during your lunch hour, that's at least two new people who became vegan. Since the average vegan saves over 50 animals per year (about 35 land animals, and many more sea animals), that's 100 animals saved per year. How many other activities can you think of that just about anybody can do, which can save at least one hundred lives in just an hour?
Inspired? Then join MFA as we put compassion into action at our Compassionate Choices Lunch Hour Outreach event. Volunteers are welcome to help for the entire hour, or for as long as they are available. To find the event, please look for Matt, who will be wearing a Mercy For Animals messenger bag.
For more information on this event, please email Matt Rice or call 347.839.6464. An RSVP is not required, but it will help us determine the correct number of leaflets to bring. We will also notify you if we have to cancel the event due to bad weather (or you can call the day of the event to confirm).
If this is your first time leafleting, you can keep it at whatever level you want. You can jump right in and secure your own street corner or you can leaflet directly with one of the experienced members until you feel comfortable.

| Manhattan, The Inner World of Farm Animals Presentation and Book Signing | Friday, August 13, 2010 |
Chickens can count. Pigs are smarter than poodles. Cows form close friendships. Turkeys know one another by their voices, and sheep recognize faces - of other sheep and of people. Far from lacking thoughts and feelings, barnyard creatures demonstrate sophisticated problem-solving abilities, possess rich social lives, and feel a wide range of emotions – just like we do. And, like us, they suffer physical pain and mental anguish.
Join Mercy For Animals at Blue Stockings in the Lower East Side of Manhattan for an eye-opening presentation by Amy Hatkoff, a child and family advocate, parenting educator, filmmaker and author of The Inner World of Farm Animals. During her presentation, Amy combines the latest research on the emotional and intellectual capacities of farmed animals with touching stories and soulful photos to bring the inner world of farmed animals to life.
Copies of The Inner World of Farm Animals will be available for purchase during the event and Amy Hatkoff will be available for signatures after the presentation.
For more information on this event, please email Matt Rice or call 347.839.6464.
