A frightened cow is shackled by her hind leg and hoisted upside down.
She bellows out in pain as her neck is sliced open with a sharp knife.
A baby chick has her beak seared off with a hot blade. Hens are met with frustration
as they try in vain to fulfill their most basic urges
while imprisoned in tiny wire cages that are so small
that they cannot even stretch a wing. A baby piglet screams with pain as he suffers the
terror of being castrated, having his tail cut off, and his ears notched,
all without a drop of anesthesia. Sick, injured, and crippled
"Frankenstein" turkeys, burdened with their genetically manipulated bodies
designed to grow an unnatural amount of breast muscle, are beaten
with a metal rod and left to die.
These horrific scenes, far from the public's view, play themselves out countless times every day
in factory farms, hatcheries, and slaughterhouses across the country. Their cries often go unheard
and their suffering unseen.
Sir Paul McCartney once said, "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian."
MFA believes that video footage documenting the oppressive nature of institutionalized farmed animal
abuse is one of the most powerful tools in promoting humane food choices.
Mercy For Animals’ newest outreach tool, a mobile TV unit called a Faunette, has been traveling to busy pedestrian intersections across Ohio with members of MFA to educate consumers about veganism. Donated by Ooh-Mah-Nee Animal Sanctuary, the Faunette airs graphic undercover video footage depicting the systematic abuse of pigs, cattle, chickens and turkeys on "modern" factory farms. This dynamic visual raises public awareness when people see with their own eyes the undeniable suffering of terrified animals struggling to survive but meeting their inevitable fate at slaughterhouses.
The Faunette has accompanied MFA members to several events in Dayton, Cincinnati, Oxford, and Columbus.
Crowds of passing pedestrians have often gathered to view the footage.
Many are visibly shocked, horrified, and in disbelief of the images they witness.
On hand at every Faunette appearance are dedicated MFA members who distribute
informational Why Vegan? booklets on the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of a vegan diet. The events encourage passing individuals to engage in a one-on-one conversations with someone who is knowledgeable about veganism and factory farming. Without a doubt, the Faunette has proven to be one of MFA’s most effective tools.
The unspeakable suffering endured by the over 10 billion sentient animals raised and killed each year to satisfy the nation's craving for animal flesh, milk, and eggs will end only when consumers to refuse to buy such products.
Adopting a vegan diet, one free of animal products, is an essential step towards ending the exploitation of animals.
