Mercy For Animals Internship Program Frequently Asked Questions:
What kind of work will I be doing as an intern?
Activities include participation in demonstrations; doing vegetarian community outreach or work with our Veg-Friendly State Campaign; exhibiting at festivals and tabling; conducting online research; coordinating volunteers; clerical work; and working on specialized projects. Intern responsibilities and projects vary depending on your unique level of skills and experience. MFA works to pair interns with projects that fully utilize their talents.
What is the deadline for submitting applications?
We accept applications year round. However, in order to assure starting when you’d like to start application materials should be submitted at least one month prior to the date when you would like to begin your internship.
How long are internships?
Internships require a minimum of a one-month commitment. Maximum length is based on the interns’ performance and number of other applications we receive.
What are the age requirements?
Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
What qualifications are necessary?
The best qualification is a desire to work hard for the animals. You do not need any particular educational or work background.
Does MFA offer school credit?
Yes. Your school should provide you with their specific requirements.
Are legal interns paid?
Full time interns receive a weekly stipend and public transportation cards.
Will training opportunities be offered?
Interns will be provided with full training on MFA’s mission and the organization’s activities, and will undergo training for all work required as part of our internship program.
How many hours a week will I work as an intern?
Full-time interns are scheduled for 40 hours each week. Part-time interns are scheduled for 20 hours each week. As we have many weekend events, some weekly workdays may fall on weekends. Schedule will vary slightly according to activities planned.
What about housing?
Please indicate on your application a need for housing. MFA housing is limited, and reserved for interns who do not live locally and who are full-time (40 hours each week). If MFA housing is not available, we may be able to assist you in finding housing.
Is there a dress code?
At MFA we strive to present a professional image. Interns should dress neatly while representing MFA publicly at protests or while exhibiting.
Do I have to be vegan?
You do not have to be vegan to intern with MFA, although we ask that you do not use or consume animal products in the MFA office, at MFA events, or in MFA housing.
Will an internship help me get a future job in animal rights?
Internships are a great way to learn about what it would be like to have a career within the animal rights movement and gain skills necessary working in the animal protection or nonprofit field!
