Modern factory farms, which mass-produce meat, eggs, and milk, cause an extreme amount of suffering to billions of animals raised and slaughtered for food every year in the United States. Effective public outreach, aimed at inspiring consumers to adopt a vegetarian diet, dramatically reduces the number of animals suffering in these conditions and affects long-term change. MFA promotes a vegetarian diet as a powerful and effective way to reduce farmed animal suffering.

Members of Mercy For Animals work to promote humane food choices at the grassroots level. Through various forms of public outreach, including leafleting and erecting educational exhibits, MFA gives consumers a glimpse of the unspeakable animal cruelty occurring behind the closed doors of America’s factory farms and slaughterhouses.

Leafleting

MFA distributes well researched, compelling, and visually appealing literature on vegetarianism outside high schools, concerts, and on college campuses as a cost effective and simple way of promoting cruelty-free food choices.

MFA's "body screen TV" and "faunette" mobile video units are frequently on-hand at leafleting events, airing powerful undercover footage of animal abuse on factory farms and in slaughterhouses. The video units bring the harsh reality of animal agriculture to busy street corners, often stopping pedestrians in their tracks. The video footage, leaflets, and knowledgeable volunteers eager to answer questions are a powerful combination that have proven successful in opening consumers’ hearts and minds to the plight of factory-farmed animals.

Tens of thousands of educational booklets have been distributed at MFA leafleting events.

Exhibits

When causes converge for festivals or celebrations, MFA is there with eye-catching displays that educate attendees about the advantages of a vegetarian diet. MFA’s professional, detailed, and illustrative display features images of healthy and free-roaming pigs, cows, and chickens juxtaposed with factory-farmed animals crowded into tiny, filthy cages and stalls. Another exhibit panel illustrates the many delicious and colorful vegetarian food options widely available in many grocery stores. The exhibit is erected at Earth Day celebrations, gay pride festivals, conferences, student involvement fairs, concerts, and other events.
