Mercy For Animals' Ohio Campaign Coordinator
Position Objective:
Use your skills, creativity, and ingenuity to help animals by reducing the consumption of animal products in Ohio, helping with a "prop 2" like ballot initiative in Ohio, and by working cooperatively with MFA's team to help MFA grow and be as effective and influential as possible. To communicate MFA’s mission to activists, donors, businesses, and news media throughout Ohio in a professional and effective manner.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Represent MFA in a trustworthy, professional, and responsible manner at all times
- Maintain excellent working relationships with the Executive Director, and other MFA employees and volunteers
- Coordinate and manage Ohio-area volunteers, campaign plans, timelines, and agendas
- Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers in a respectful, patient, and appreciative manner so they invest their time and talents to helping further MFA's mission
- Create a culture of trust, effectiveness, and hope within MFA's Ohio chapters
- Work with local volunteers to organize:
- public outreach events, such as: tabling, leafleting, video showings, presentations, and restaurant benefits for MFA
- Monitor Ohio-area newspapers for stories relevant to factory farming and veganism; write and submit letters to the editors promoting vegetarianism
- Organize annual Celebrating Compassion Gala and other special fundraising events
- Work to create and implement MFA’s Vegetarian-Friendly Ohio Campaign by working with area restaurants to carry more vegan options, and maintain the VegOhio.com website.
- Effectively generate media coverage and professionally represent MFA’s position and message to news reporters
- Write news releases, articles for MFA publications (such as Compassionate Living Magazine and MFA’s enewsletter) as well as website features and blog posts
- Travel throughout Ohio when necessary to carry out public outreach events, meetings, speak at schools and colleges, etc.
- Develop humane education lectures aimed primarily toward junior high, high school, and college students; generate leads with teachers, secure speaking engagements, and give the presentations to students
- Assist with fundraising strategies, implementation, and development
- Maintain email and face-to-face contact with major contributors in Ohio to develop relationships and give updates on campaigns. Also hold special meetings with contributors regarding funding for specific projects
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of Campaigns
Qualifications:
- Previous activist experience
- Outgoing and personable manner with exceptional communication skills
- Leadership experience coordinating group efforts in a respectful, patient, and appreciative manner
- Public-speaking experience
- Valid driver's license and vehicle
- Ability to travel
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Thorough knowledge of factory farming and vegan issues
- Supportive regard for MFA's mission and an ability to professionally advocate MFA’s positions on issues
- Self-motivated
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
