Tell Ohio Livestock Board to Protect Baby Calves

In June of 2010, Ohio leaders including former Governor Ted Strickland, the Ohio Farm Bureau and the agribusiness lobby agreed that by the end of 2017, calves of all ages that are raised for veal must be given at least enough room to turn around comfortably. Sadly, in a move away from this agreement, the Livestock Board voted on March 1st to continue to allow Ohio’s veal producers to chain baby calves in narrow wooden crates for the first 10 weeks of their short 16 week lives, making it impossible for them to turn around, stretch or even lie down comfortably.

Take Action:

If you live in Ohio, please use the form below to send a polite e-mail to Director Jim Zehringer of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, and the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board, to tell them that calves raised for veal should be provided with enough space to turn around-at all stages of their lives. Please personalize the form letter with your own words to strengthen its impact.
